Remember Chikamso, the 8 years old girl who was raped and murdered by an undergraduate for rituals last week? Here are some facts you may not have known. Chikamso's rapist and killer, Ifeanyi Dike, is her mother's cousin. Little Chikamso has known and has been living with her killer since she was born. Ifeanyi Dike has been living with Chikamso's parents since he was 3 years old, now he is 24 years old. They took him in as their son and had been taking care of him as theirs since then. They were the ones sponsoring his university education before the incident. Chikamso's average income earning parents use to give Ifeanyi weekly allowance between N2, 500 to N5,000. Unknown to them that he might have lots of money in his account, as he offered to bribe the vigilante group that caught him with 400,000 Naira.  Why did I highlight these points?  Most times those who harm our children or steal their innocence are those people our children are very familiar w

Of Sons And Role Models!

Image
Today, I am worried about our sons, today’s young men. I am truly worried and every mother should pause, take a closer look at her sons and daughters and answer this question: Are you empowering your son for the journey ahead of him? Answer truthfully, after all you are alone and you don’t have to let anybody hear you. I think Nigerian mothers have not done well raising future husbands and fathers. Let’s admit it: we have not scored above average; that is if we achieved average at all. Take a closer look at your beautiful daughter and your handsome six-footer son. Who is better prepared for the task ahead? I know some of us had realised this and have done better than others but most Nigerian mothers need to buckle up. Our sons are not what they should be and we cannot have the society, the country we desire when we put unprepared men and overgrown boys in positions of authority. I’ll explain myself. In too many homes, the wives are the bread winners. Too many women are paying

Seven Lifestyle Changes That Could Help Maintain Prostrate Health!

Image
The size of the bladder is 40 - 60 cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage. What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.  Everything described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia. There are other diseases of the prostate like: 1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate 2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate. This discussion is on prostate enlargement. I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that everyman will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough. The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health. Nutrition Look at what you eat.
