Bolanle Ambode Flags off Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers

Never Trust Anyone Completely With Your Children!

Remember Chikamso, the 8 years old girl who was raped and murdered by an undergraduate for rituals last week? Here are some facts you may not have known.

Chikamso's rapist and killer, Ifeanyi Dike, is her mother's cousin.

Little Chikamso has known and has been living with her killer since she was born. Ifeanyi Dike has been living with Chikamso's parents since he was 3 years old, now he is 24 years old. They took him in as their son and had been taking care of him as theirs since then. They were the ones sponsoring his university education before the incident.
Chikamso's average income earning parents use to give Ifeanyi weekly allowance between N2, 500 to N5,000. Unknown to them that he might have lots of money in his account, as he offered to bribe the vigilante group that caught him with 400,000 Naira.
Why did I highlight these points?
Most times those who harm our children or steal their innocence are those people our children are very familiar with, those who saw us …

Of Sons And Role Models!

Today, I am worried about our sons, today’s young men. I am truly worried and every mother should pause, take a closer look at her sons and daughters and answer this question: Are you empowering your son for the journey ahead of him? Answer truthfully, after all you are alone and you don’t have to let anybody hear you. I think Nigerian mothers have not done well raising future husbands and fathers. Let’s admit it: we have not scored above average; that is if we achieved average at all.

Take a closer look at your beautiful daughter and your handsome six-footer son. Who is better prepared for the task ahead? I know some of us had realised this and have done better than others but most Nigerian mothers need to buckle up. Our sons are not what they should be and we cannot have the society, the country we desire when we put unprepared men and overgrown boys in positions of authority. I’ll explain myself.

In too many homes, the wives are the bread winners. Too many women are paying the rent an… Joins Nigerian Online News Staple

Seven Lifestyle Changes That Could Help Maintain Prostrate Health!

The size of the bladder is 40 - 60 cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage. What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.
Everything described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia. There are other diseases of the prostate like: 1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate 2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.
This discussion is on prostate enlargement. I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that everyman will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough. The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health.
Nutrition Look at what you eat. 33% of all cancers, according t…

How To Inspire Manners In Your Children!

·When entering the house greet your children or even hug them. This should help develop their sense of love and self-worth.
·Be good to your neighbours and never backbite. Never speak ill of other drivers when on the road. Your children listen, absorb and emulate.
·When calling your parents, encourage your children to speak to them. When visiting your parents take your children with you. The more they see you take care of your parents the more they will learn to take care of you.
·When driving them say to school, don't always play albums or cds. Rather, tell them the stories yourself. This will have a greater impact - trust me!
·Read to them a short story and  even a scripture a day – it doesn't take much time, but very impactful in creating strong bonds and wonderful memories.
·  Comb your hair, clean your teeth and wear presentable cloths even if sitting at home and not going out for the day. They need to learn that being clean and tidy has nothing to do with going out!
·Try n…

Cultural Re-orientation- Panacea For Gender-Based Violence!

Considering the upsurge in the cases of domestic violence and the many sided issues that tend to endanger the lives of women and girls in Nigeria today, there is perhaps no better time than now for stakeholders to converge and share experiences with a view to providing strategies and modalities for protecting and safeguarding women. This, amongst other things was what informed the initiative of the just-concluded WAPA Connect Conference, which held recently at the expansive hall of 10 Degrees Event Centre, Billings Way, Ikeja where women from all walks of life gathered to learn from one another and unite for an affirmative action to liberate victims of gender based violence.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, Fostering Domestic Harmony through Multi-Perspective Analysis and Graphic Display/Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century, the chief host and Honourable Commissioner or Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviaiton, Dr. Lola Akande, defined violence as “any act of gender-based violence …

I Found My 14-Year Son Masturbating!

I found my 14 year old son masturbating. I was shocked. I cried. I almost killed myself. He is an introvert and has a few friends, so it surprised me how he knows how to. He was moaning and licking his fingers and the wall. He would rub his penis on the wall. I also noticed he has a bottle of coconut oil I have been looking for beside him. He keeps putting the oil on his penis. I couldn't bear it any more. I called his name but he didn't hear; he was so engrossed. I had to scream his name. He almost fainted; he didn't know I would be home early. I decided to be calm and called his daddy who rushed home immediately. We decided to sleep on it. It was the longest night of our life. We are godly parents. We trained our children very well. What did we do wrong ? We had time for them. We counsel them all the time against social vices. We refused to buy them phone until they completed secondary schools. We kept asking ourselves what we did wrong. So it baffled us how this son of o…
