LASG Reiterates Its Commitment to Financial Independence Amongst Women


The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure financial independence for women in the state in order to be self –reliant particularly during the current economic recession.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Hon. (Dr.) Lola Akande made the statement during the Women Academy Workshop on “How best to offer help and economic support to women in the 21st century through entrepreneurial skills’’ organised by the Ministry in collaboration with Archetype Management Consultancy Limited. The event was held at Prestige Catering and Hotels Hall, Alausa, Ikeja.

Akande disclosed that the workshop which was part of the empowerment policies of the Ambode Administration to mitigate the effects of poverty among women in the state, would be of great benefit to the participants as  they would be exposed to how to improve the  home front activities,  key ways to improve their economic values, become familiar with trending and vital business ideas and identify crucial areas to exert their God ordained strength.She urged them to make good use of the unique opportunity provided by the workshop to better their lots and justify government spending to inspire and empower women in the state.

Different presentations were made on Home Management, Viable Small Scale businesses for women, Funding Options for Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs), Marketing Strategies for SMEs, Money Management and Accessing Fund Successfully. Facilitators like Godwin Abiodun Oyefeso  talked about Managing Business For Profitability , Ola Oladimeji enlightened participants on how to secure  loan through cooperative societies, banks and various loans provided by the government.  He added that loans are meant to be channelled into businesses and not to be spent on merriment as it has a pay specific time, while Saadat Raji from Bank of Industry (BOI) spoke on how to access Federal Government Agric Loan .

While presenting certificates to about 200 participants at the Programme, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abiola Liadi thanked Archetype Management Consultancy Limited particularly the Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Sola Oleke for partnering with the Ministry.  She also expressed the Ministry’s appreciation to all the facilitators and speakers for their well-prepared and insightful presentations.
